Production Coordinator

Graphic Communications, Inc. is seeking a Production Coordinator for this critical position in our family type, team-feel business. We design, print and warehouse pressure sensitive labels and flexible packaging for the packaged food, medical packaging and testing, pharma- and nutraceutical and cosmetic industries.

Duties/Responsibilities:

Schedules press operators and finishing department staff to ensure the jobs are produced and delivered to meet customer demands.
Is in constant communication with Sr. Management, Customer Service and Shipping to keep the schedule current.
Identifies any bottlenecks or delays in production; ensures necessary labor, materials, and other resources are available to relieve production bottlenecks and delays.
Ensures appropriate production rate to reduce delivery dates.
Uses production planning and scheduling to limit materials shortages.
Identifies and confirms the availability of materials and supplies necessary for the production process.
Attends daily Production Meetings to communicate scheduling updates and concerns.
Performs other related duties as assigned.

We are a company of 20 get-it-done people, and we produce many projects in the $5,000 - $10,000 range throughout the year. This position manages the flow of a significant amount of money in and money out. We are large enough to keep things interesting and small enough that you will know pretty much everything that is going on and how the business flows.

We produce pressure sensitive labels for the medical testing and surgery industry, the food industry, cleaning product and chemical industry, and for other industries that require an intelligent label design. Our specialty is working with Marketing Directors to create labels that sell products, clearly communicate required information and that are compatible with that business’s labeling machinery and process. We are growing and are at the top of our game and we continue to stay on the cutting edge of labeling technology.

The recent pandemic and our work with test kit labels and our rapid response to clients who shifted to hand sanitizer production kept us busy and showed how important labels really are.

Specific Responsibilities Include

Create estimates (project plans) in LabelTraxx for prospective work and live projects.

Obtain and analyze project specifications, determine most cost-efficient manner of production based on production capabilities.

Evaluate previous historical estimated/actual costs versus final invoice values on previous repeat projects prior to submitting updated estimates.

Understand and analyze cost structure and sell pricing models.

Solicit outside vendor pricing for products, services, and scheduling, as necessary.

Provide all available information, details, and specifications within project estimates through LabelTraxx to ensure best outcome for conversion to custom products and job tickets.

Support Customer Service / Account Manager Team

Check from a technical and engineering aspect that everything is correct before the ticket goes to production for new items. (Repeat work handled by other staff members)

Move the estimates forward into the custom product, then on to the ticket to make sure it gets done the way the job was originally visualized.

Order the dies and double check the die order or plate order, and direct how the materials should be purchased.

Clean Design Aesthetic: Ability to translate conversations into designs aligned with GCI brand promise of aesthetic, color matching, product quality, and attention to detail.

Communication and Social Skills and Professionalism: Be articulate, warm, friendly, disciplined, and flexible while communicating with clients directly and representing the GCI brand. Communicate frequently and clearly with other GCI team members internally.

Problem Solve: Solutions to problems are not always apparent: must be able to think creatively and develop solutions to challenges relating to design/fabrication. Draw actionable insights from meetings, conversations, and past experiences.

Passionate Learning: Must be eager to learn about GCI’s history, projects, and processes. Learn about industrial efficiency and minimization of waste strategies.

Comprehension of Basic Marketing and the Markets we serve Principles: We serve the cosmetics, food and medical industries. Labels are important and you will learn why labels are designed for different purposes.

Detail Oriented + Great and Fast with Math: The details are everything in our world. Candidates must appreciate the details not just in design but also in the elements required to provide our clients with accurate estimates, drawings, and details. Math can be done with spreadsheets and computers but when you can “feel the numbers” you can know when estimates and numbers make sense or don’t make sense.

Manufacturing and Spatial Relationship Sense: You should have the ability to visualize how labels will run through the press, how to get more than one side by side, maximize the material that we are able to get within minimal waste, etc.

Diligence and Urgency: Dedication to stay on top of projects and push them forward to meet deadlines. (Contact vendors to keep them on task and to get realistic delivery dates)

Self-motivation/Initiative: Take ownership of projects. Be willing to make decisions.

Time Management: Manage your own time and work under pressure on several simultaneous projects with a clear timeline of completion.

Experience Requirements

Minimum of 5 years of experience of any kind in a print production facility – digital presses or flexo or both.

A High School diploma or equivalent plus associates training or tech school training in printing or production or shop skills

Rock solid capability with Excel, Word, and other normal office computer software.

Outstanding capability with an estimating and/or engineering software program. We can train you to use our systems if you have the experience of learning some kind of software that you can demonstrate to us.

You must have experience with choosing materials and printing methods and dies and plates etc. You need to get how to swap out options on different jobs.

You must be fast with basic math… not calculus or big equations… just old school addition, multiplication, and division.

You must have worked in a job that required a feel for numbers and visualization of production at the estimating and planning stage.

You must have created basic estimates of cost and production times in the print industry. You can be an expert, but you don’t need to be… we can get you there if you have a desire to learn and grow.
